Current situation in Ecuador
We would like you to enjoy your stay with us as much as possible and only come if it is safe for you to do so. Covid has shown us that there can be exceptional situations unsuitable for travel. However, it has also shown us that the media report sensationally, live on whipping up hysteria and that the Foreign Office is a moloch that may not report truthfully or up to date. So on this page you will find information directly from the source, from those of us who live in the country and from visitors who share their travel experiences with us.
Security situation
To date, we consider it very safe and hassle-free to visit us at our center. It is located in the province of Pastaza in the Amazon. We recommend staying near the airport to take advantage of group transportation, which will guarantee a hassle-free visit,
What is not so safe is to plan your trip to the crime hotspots, which are mainly on the coast of Ecuador and also in the cities of Guayaquil and Quito. It is best to avoid them or travel by day and in a safe manner.
Due to some of the reports that have been in the international press in early 2024, fewer people are willing to travel. Expect that there may be fewer tourists in tourist destinations.
The situation in the Amazon, for example in the towns of Tena, Puyo, or Banos de Agua Santa, is calm, they are good places to visit. National parks such as Galápagos, or Cuyabeno, are also very safe to visit.
If you have any questions about safety, you can contact us anytime via whatsapp.
State of exception
To enable the state to effectively crack down on offenders and to use the military to conduct raids without a search warrant, the president has declared a state of emergency that will last for 60 days from 3 October 2024. The State of exception is not declared in the province where our centre is located, nor anywhere on the road from the airport to the centre.
A curfew has also been declared in some locations from 10 pm to 6 am. These are the provinces of Guayas, Los Ríos, Manabí, Orellana, Santa Elena, El Oro, and in the district of Camilo Ponce Enríquez in the province of Azuay.
The city of Quito also has a state of exception, but there are no restrictions on going out on the streets at night.
Power outages
Most of Ecuador’s electricity is generated by hydroelectric power. As the season is very poor in rainfall, the country is facing electricity shortages. Depending on the current situation, power supply restrictions are continuously introduced at certain hours. So don’t be surprised if you see generators on the streets or parts of the city plunged into darkness. We recommend you take advantage of this to get a better night’s sleep and rest.
